At the same time, here in Canada, colleges are facing monetary stress because of reductions in worldwide trainee permits. This decrease in earnings has created startling budget restraints at colleges, disclosing a deep reliance on worldwide pupils as a earnings resource.
This has led to existential questions about our colleges. With today's world in dilemma, what should the role of the college be? And why are our public colleges so underfunded? And how can they proceed to offer their neighborhoods?
Theses are big questions, ones that appeared fitting to tackle on our last episode of Do not Call Me Durable tape-taped live before a target market at the College of British Columbia. Signing up with us to tackle them was Annette Henry, a teacher in the Division of Language and Proficiency Education and learning at UBC that is cross-appointed to the Institute for Race, Sex, Sexuality and Social Justice. Her work checks out race, course, language, sex and society in education and learning for Black pupils and instructors in Canada.
We also spoke to Michelle Pile, an partner teacher in UBC's Division of Academic Studies whose work considers academic plan, college positions and equity and education and learning.
